How Briefs Social works

Briefs Social is a free social app you can use in your phone or computer browser. This guide walks through everything in the order most people use it.

1. Create your account

Open briefs.zareg.co.za and sign up with your email address or your Google account. You will be asked for your date of birth and to accept the terms. You must be at least 13, and if you are under 18 a parent or guardian needs to agree. Check your email for a code to verify your address.

2. Set up your profile

Open Profile and add a photo, a display name and a short bio. You can make your account private to limit who sees your friends and followers, and you can choose what shows in your About section.

3. Find people

Use Explore to search for people, hashtags and posts, and to see the top posters and who is active now. Tap Follow to see someone in your feed, or send a friend request.

4. Post

On the home page tap What's on your mind? to share text, photos or a video. Add hashtags so people can find your post. Other people can react and comment.

5. Lobs and Stories

Lobs are short videos you scroll through. Your Brief at the top of the home page is your Story, which disappears after 24 hours. More about Lobs and Stories.

6. Chat

Open Chats to message people privately. You can limit who is allowed to message you in Settings.

7. Communities

Open Groups to find or start a public or private community. More about communities.

8. Buy and sell

Open Business to list something for sale or browse what people near you are selling. More about buying and selling.

9. Go live

Tap Live on the home page to see who is live, or to go live yourself if you are 18 or over. More about live video.

10. Settings

In Settings you can switch between light and dark mode, hide your active status, change your password, and delete your account.
