Terms of Service

Last updated: 11 October 2026

These Terms govern your use of Briefs (the "app"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. Who runs Briefs

Briefs is run by Mulisa Maphaha, an individual developer based in South Africa. Contact: info@zareg.co.za. Briefs is currently in testing, so features may change or be unavailable.

2. Who can use Briefs

You must be at least 13. If you're 13–17, you need your parent or guardian's agreement to use Briefs, and you confirm this when you sign up; your parent or guardian is responsible for your use of the app. You must give your real date of birth. We delete accounts that belong to anyone under 13, or to a 13–17 year old who signed up without a parent's agreement.

3. Your account

Give accurate information when you sign up, including a working email address. Keep your password secure; you're responsible for everything that happens under your account.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of anything you post — text, photos, videos, comments, messages and listings. By posting it, you give Briefs a licence to store, display and distribute it within the app to the audience you choose (public, friends or only you). Only post content you own or have permission to use, and you're responsible for what you post.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Post content that's illegal, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or that impersonates someone else
  • Post anything that exploits or endangers children (see our Child Safety Standards)
  • Post content that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark. This includes videos with other people's songs in them: use the music Briefs offers for your Briefs, or sounds you made yourself. We remove such content when told about it, and may disable accounts that keep posting it
  • Attempt to access another user's account or data without permission
  • Use the app to send spam, scams or unsolicited messages
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape or attack the app's infrastructure

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.

5a. Live video

You must be 18 or over to go live; anyone can watch. You are responsible for everything you show or say while live, and you must not stream anything illegal, sexually explicit, violent, hateful or harassing, anything that endangers a child, or anything you don't have the right to broadcast (such as someone else's copyrighted music or video). People connected directly to you, including people you accept to join, can see your IP address, and anyone watching may record what you stream. We can end a live video or suspend an account at any time if these rules are broken, and anyone can report a live video from inside it.

6. Reports and automatic suspension

Anyone can report a post, comment, message or profile. An account is automatically suspended when more than 5 different people report it, and its content is hidden while suspended. If you think your account was suspended unfairly, email us and a person will review it.

7. Marketplace

The marketplace lets users list items for sale to each other. Briefs is not a party to these sales: we don't own, inspect or guarantee any item, and buyers and sellers deal with each other directly, including payment, delivery and returns. Sellers must describe items honestly, only sell things they're legally allowed to sell, and follow consumer protection law. Don't list illegal, stolen, counterfeit or dangerous items, weapons, drugs, or adult content. Meet in a safe public place and never pay in advance to someone you don't trust.

8. Post boosts and payments

Buying post boosts is currently paused while Briefs is in testing. Boosts bought earlier run for up to 30 days. If a boost you paid for doesn't reach its target number of people within those 30 days, email us and we'll refund the part that wasn't delivered. Payments are processed by PayFast in South African Rand.

9. Third-party sign-in

You can sign in with a Google account instead of a password. Doing so shares your name, email and profile photo from Google with Briefs, governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy in addition to these.

10. Copyright complaints

If you believe something on Briefs infringes your copyright, email us with a link to the content, proof that you own the work, and your contact details. We'll remove infringing content and may suspend repeat infringers.

11. Our intellectual property

Briefs — the app's source code, design, user interface, and the "Briefs" name and branding — belongs to its creator. Except for the licence you grant us over your own content in Section 4, nothing in these Terms gives you any ownership or licence over the app itself. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or redistribute any part of it without prior written permission. Open-source components the app uses are listed on our open-source licences page and stay under their own licences.

12. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from Settings — this is instant and permanent. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

13. No warranty and liability

Briefs is provided "as is." We do our best to keep it running and your data safe, but we don't guarantee the app will be uninterrupted, error-free or lossless. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect losses, or for content, items or conduct of other users. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other law that can't be excluded.

14. Law enforcement and legal requests

We may access, preserve and disclose your account information and content — including to law enforcement, courts, regulators or other government authorities — if required by a valid subpoena, court order or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to comply with the law, protect the safety of any person, or investigate a violation of these Terms. Where the law allows it, we'll try to notify you before disclosing your information in response to a legal request.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

16. Changes

We may update these Terms as the app changes, and we'll let you know in the app about important changes. Continuing to use Briefs after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
